Instituted by Decree on September 30, 1945 of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (Gazette of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, 1945, No. 70).
According to its regulation, it was to be awarded to all servicemen and civilians serving in the Red Army, the Navy, the NKVD, etc. who took part in the fighting against Japan between August 8 and 23, 1945 on the 1st and 2nd Transbaikal fronts, the Pacific Ocean Fleet and the Amur River flotilla; it was also awarded to servicemen of the People's Commissariat, the People's Commissariat of Defense, the Navy Commissariat and the People's Commissariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who were active during the operations against Japan.
After the defeat of Germany, Japan continued the war against the United States and Great Britain. There was a large concentration of Japanese troops in the far eastern territories of the USSR, so in accordance with the Yalta agreement, on August 8, 1945 the USSR declared war on Japan.
The war lasted 22 days, until September 2, 1945 when Japan signed unconditional surrender.
The Victory over Japan medal was awarded to approximately 1,831,000 people.
Collecting the medal:
There are three variants, the first variant, has the ring soldered to the medal, the second variant differs from the first in that the ring and medal are one piece and the ring is U-shaped, and the third variant has the round ring but made in one piece with the medal.
