Description: Order of Aleksandr Nevsky, silver, number: 23,657, in good condition. Measures:49mmx51mm.

Awarded to a captain of the 68th Guards Rifle Regiment in March 1945 because "During the fighting in February 1945 on the territory of Germany Comrade Barannik showed himself as a skilled, brave and courageous commander, who perfectly learned modern methods of combat.

In the battle on February 5, 1945 the enemy managed to enter the combat formations of the 1st rifle battalion and to separate two rifle units from other units and from the battalion command post.

The enemy's objective was to annihilate our rifle crews in parts. The communications of the rifle crews with the battalion command were totally interrupted and the radio was damaged by enemy fire. Two rifle crews were left without overall command. Comrade Barannik, assessing the situation, took over the command of the two platoons and performing circular defense created an attack group with the platoon personnel to break the enemy's siege.

Together with this attack group, taking advantage of the surprise and impetuosity of the attack, Comrade Barannik, distributing precisely the combat tasks for each soldier, led the attack on the enemy. The enemy did not expect the attack and could not organize a consistent resistance and having many casualties, retreated, leaving, in this way to Comrade Barannik, to break the siege of the enemy and enlarge the break, restoring the original position. In this operation Comrade Barannik's group had no personnel casualties at all, while the enemy left on the battlefield more than 20 corpses of his soldiers.".
