Wiki - Germany - Wound badge

On September 1, 1939 Hitler reinstated this decoration, there were three categories: black for 1 or 2 wounds, silver for 3 or 4 wounds and gold for 5 or more.

The silver category was awarded automatically if the wound caused loss of hearing, an eye, a foot or a hand.

The gold category was awarded if the wound caused blindness, disability or sterility.

Black plates were hollow, stamped in brass, steel or zink, silver and gold plates were solid, made of tombak or zink.
