Established on October 18, 1938, the medal was awarded to participants in the occupation of the Sudetenland in 1938 and the rest of Czechoslovakia in 1939.
On March 15, 1939, the Prague Castle pin was instituted for those who participated in the occupation of the Sudetenland, Bohemia and Moravia.
1,162,617 medals and 134,563 pins were awarded.
